Call for artists in the Barents region.
Submission entries between: February 1st – April 30th, 2008.
Colouring the North is a project by the artist-run space Verkligheten in Umeć, Sweden. It is a part of the Barents Triennal 2008–2009, which is organized by Pikene pć Broen in Kirkenes, Norway.
Colouring the North – general info
With this project, Verkligheten would like to make an inventory of artists in the Barents region that use drawing in their artistic practise. This thought coincided with an idea we had - to make a contemporary colouring book. Colouring books and the world and values they represent are often sweet and old-fashion in a way that is of little current interest. We would like to make a colouring book for both children and grownups with real artworks made by contemporary artists, where the pictures might have other values than just being cute. One can also choose to see the book as a book of art, not colouring the pictures at all.
All the drawings will be shown in an exhibition at Verkligheten by the end of 2008. At the same time the colouring book launch will take place.
Artists from the Barents region are eligible to apply with max 3 drawings. A jury consisting of: one artist from Verkligheten, Ivar Tornéus, art historian and Frida Hammar, illustrator will select the drawings for the colouring book, amongst them the winner for the cover of the colouring book 250 euro and the first price which is 500 euro.
The colouring book will be for sale at a reasonable price.
