7. Bernd Krauss
Fort Krauss As Part of the project ”PRODUCTION AS
PROCESS” at Konsthögskolan Umeå Bernd Krauss will
reinstall an installation at VERKLIGHETEN, that was first
shown in 1996 at Kunstraum VIA 113, Artgenossen in
Hildesheim/Germany. Maria Lind has chosen this piece in
her function being curator of the show out of a bunch of
documentation leftovers from Bernd Krauss` student work
at the University of Hildesheim. At the beginning the
show will start with a totally new reconstructed version.
From then on students of the Konsthögskolan Umeå are
invited to take part in the program. That could mean they
come along with one work or they start an own project in
that preoccupied exhibition space, play a concert or
having breakfast in the FORT KRAUSS garden. In that way
the exhibition brings work together that is produced at
art schools at different times and tries to find out
about similarities and differences and mix up both. Seen
as part of PRODUCTION AS PROCESS this is a possibility
for the students to react on the inversive practise Bernd
Krauss established the last three months as an
artist-in-residence at Konsthögskolan. Bernd Krauss Bernd
Krauss, based in Berlin, often works with series of
mutually related spatial situations and actions,
involving almost all kinds of traditional artistic
expression including paintings, sculptures, drawings,
objects, videos, photographs, performances etc. Bernd is
interested in the most varied levels and manifestations
of creative activity, which he refers to humorously in
his ”do-it-yourself” works. Modernist art is
then often acting as a backdrop to his own more
amateur-inspired tinkering. As an on-going project he is
for instance in various locations regularly video-filming
events of local character which he edits directly in the
video-camera adding his own commentary and thereby
refering to the kind of local television which you find
in most parts of Europe. In many cases Bernd Krauss is
living near or inside the installations he is working on.
As a ”maker” he is constantly adding new
playful elements to his overall environments, referencing
and mocking the inviting institution/organisation. Over
the years he has managed to create a lifestyle where he
survives on small means, for instance accepting all kinds
of unusual residencies for artists, in order to continue
working with his art production.
